Orlando Beltran is not only a dear friend and former college roommate, he is also an accomplished athlete and youth educator. He grew up in Southern California and progressed through the youth sports system to become a multi-sport athlete at the University of Redlands. He has a unique sports story that we all can learn from and in this episode and in part 2, I’ll sit down with Orlando and talk about some of his role coaching role models, what has changed since he was a youth athlete, and why learning from failure is so important.

Orlando Beltran
Orlando Beltran was raised by his mother in the East Hollywood area of Los Angeles. He was and always has been extremely passionate about playing sports. During his time at Marshall High School in Los Angeles, he participated in Basketball, Football, Swimming, and Track & Field. He had a few opportunities to play football in college and ultimately decided to play at the University of Redlands to stay close to his mother. While in college he participated in three Div. III sports: Football, Basketball, Track & Field. He was also part of the Alpha Gamma Nu Fraternity and was part of the theater department where he performed and was a sound designer. After college, Orlando pursued his new passion of working with youth and went on to be a teacher, sports coach, a counselor, and assistant principal. He has made travel a priority in his life and tries to do so whenever he gets a chance, including time in Japan as an English teacher. Orlando now lives in San Francisco where he is the assistant principal of Lowell High School and manages a YouTube channel about the beauty of travel and the relationships that come from it.
